Cambodian prime minister angry over lawlessness
Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen has threatened to sack police officers and top local officials for failing to stem rampant lawlessness.
Hun Sen made the comments in a nationally-televised address to the annual conference of police leaders and provincial governors.
He said the number of roadblocks where armed men extort money from travelers was rising "like an incurable cancer", and that any official allowing a road block to continue would be sacked.
He also ordered police to crack down on juvenile gangs in schools.
The comments follow his decision last week to suspend three senior police officers and detain a policeman who failed to arrest two of his nephews for alleged involvement in a night shootout in Phnom Penh last month.
