Japanese tourists not travelling overseas

The number of Japanese tourists travelling overseas has gone into it's biggest decline on record.

It's a slump that has far-reaching implications, as Tokyo correspondent Mark Simkin reports:

"Japanese tourists are highly sought after by countries such as Australia. They travel in groups and spend large amounts of money. But they're also very risk averse and, in the wake of the terrorist attacks in the United States, they stayed at home in droves. In November, tourist departures from Japan dropped by 42 percent from the year before, the biggest drop on record. It's the latest evidence of the on-going economic impact of the terrorist attacks.
