U-S Secretary of State heads to South Asia next week
America's Secretary of State, Colin Powell, will head for South Asia next week to try to ease tensions between India-Pakistan.
Mr Powell, who has been at the vanguard of U-S diplomacy designed to head off a military confrontation, called on Islamabad to intensify a crackdown on militants.
Speaking after talks with India's Home Minister, L-K Advani, the Secretary of State said he hoped his trip would contribute to resolving the crisis in a peaceful manner.
New Delhi has complained that Pakistan has yet to satisfy its demands for a crackdown on militant groups, following an attack on its parliament on December 13th which triggered the current diplomatic crisis and military standoff.
India has accused two Pakistan-based militant groups of carrying out the parliament attack and claims the plan was hatched by Pakistani intelligence services.
