Indonesia's President Wahid tells MPs to work harder

Indonesia 's President Abdurrahman Wahid has chided law-makers for failing to do their own work, is his response to this week's stinging rebuke by his parliament.

Addressing the nation in a televised speech, President Wahid made no mention of the second censure motion lodged against him by the People's Representative Council.

Instead, he says the legislators have pressing business to attend to, with 160 draft bills waiting to be settled.

The president says democracy can be upheld in Indonesia only if each branch of the government carries out its respective tasks.

But he says it's up to all of them to keep fighting for the rule of law in the country.

My brothers and sisters of the nation that's built together in every aspect, especially to revive our economy so Indonesia can once again be a great nation.
