Afghanistan's new leader arrives in the capital Kabul
Afghanistan's designated interim leader Hamid Karzai has arrived in Kabul to prepare for the transfer of power on December the 22nd.
Mr Karzai, who was appointed head of the interim administration at last week's UN-brokered accord in Bonn, has a 30-member cabinet that includes key members of the country's various ethnic groups.
The interim authority will rule the country for six months after which an emergency loya jirga -- a traditional council of tribal elders -- will appoint a transitional government for the next 18 months.
On the warfront, US aircraft continue to pound targets in the cave-riddled Tora Bora area of eastern Afghanistan, while US military officials say a supersonic B-1 bomber ditched into the Indian Ocean.
The Pentagon says all four crew members were rescued after two hours in the water by a US destroyer. There was no explanation of the cause of the crash, which occurred as the plane headed back from a sortie over Afghanistan.
It's still unclear whether Osama bin Laden, the leader of al-Qaeda forces and the United States' most wanted man, is still with the last of his fighting forces in the Tora Bora region.
