India's Prime Minister warns of war on terrorism after attack
India's Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee says an armed assault on the country's parliament will spur his nation on to a "do or die" battle with terrorists.
At least five gunmen launched an assault on India's parliament complex, triggering a shootout which left 12 dead, including the attackers.
The gunmen's identity has not been determined, but Home Minister, L-K Advani, says the attack is a "major conspiracy" to destabilise the country.
Officials and witnesses said the gunmen drove into the parliament complex in an official car, displaying security stickers and with its siren blaring.
The AFP news agencty quotes witnesses as saying the occupants jumped from the car and, armed with rifles, grenades and plastic explosives made for the main entrance to parliament, firing as they went.
