Malaysia plans to soldiers with medical team to Afghanistan

Malaysia plans to send an armed forces medical team escorted by a platoon carrying light weapons to an Afghan refugee camp in Pakistan.

Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad will seek Pakistan's permission for the armed soldiers to escort the medics.

If granted the 66-member expedition, including 30 medical personnel, would leave as early as Sunday.

The medical team would be able to provide outpatient treatment to 200 people and perform two major operations daily.
