Japan's Foreign Minister holds talks with Indian counterpart
Japan's Foreign Minister, Makiko Tanaka, has held talks with her Indian counterpart, urging both India and Pakistan to withdraw their troops from the Kashmir border.
Japanese officials say Mrs Tanaka talked with Jaswant Singh as part of Tokyo's efforts to help defuse tension between the two South Asian neighbors.
Mrs Tanaka, who is currently on a tour of Europe, talked with Pakistan's Foreign Minister Abdul Sattar over the phone during an earlier stop in Frankfurt. She urged the Indian government to resolve its differences with Pakistan through dialogue.
India has demanded a crackdown on Pakistan-based militant groups, blaming two of them for last month's attack on parliament which triggered the current diplomatic crisis between the two nuclear-armed rivals.
In recent weeks, Pakistani security forces have rounded up scores of militants, branded by India as terrorists, but India insists it's still waiting for Pakistan to take substantive steps.
