Vietnam assures safety of Montagnard returnees from Cambodia

Vietnam says it will ensure the safe return of ethnic minority refugees who fled to Cambodia in the wake of a government crackdown last year.

Representatives from Cambodia, Vietnam and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees reached agreement earlier this week to smooth the way for the repatriation of more than one-thousand indigenous refugees, known as Montagnards.

A Vietnamese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman says those who illegally crossed the border into Cambodia can return to Vietnam in an orderly, safe and dignified manner.
