Bangladesh tightens security on its border with Burma

Bangladesh has tightened security on its border with Burma to stop "illegal" infiltration.

More than 280,000 Burmese Muslims entered Bangladesh in 1991, claiming they were victims of repression and human rights violations, a charge denied by Burma's military junta.

Most were repatriated by 1993 under two agreements between the neighbours and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

More than 20,000 remain in two camps in southeastern Cox's Bazar district where little progress has been to secure their repatriation.
