Sri Lankan troops shoot 10 rebels, sympathisers
Sri Lankan security forces have shot dead at least 10 people, including six separatist Tamil Tiger rebels and four apparent sympathisers of the group, in various clashes.
The defence ministry says in an incident at Nagarkovil in the Jaffna peninsula, troops shot dead four men who were members of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam separatist group.
It says two women fighters of the LTTE were killed in another clash in the same area. Troops also shot dead four men believed to be LTTE sympathisers at Navaladi in the east of the island on Saturday. Tiger guerrillas are leading a drawn out campaign for independence in the island's northeast.
