India moves its troops to the border with Pakistan
India has moved its troops to the border with Pakistan.
New Delhi described it as a "precautionary measure."
An Indian army spokesman said the move was taken after a heavy Pakistani build-up at a number of places in various sectors from Kashmir to Rajasthan along the international border and the Line of Control. The Line of Control is the de facto border between the two countries in disputed Kashmir, which is partly held by both. However, India denied claims by Pakistan that it had moved troops to the border "in a very aggressive posture."
Both nations have put their armed forces on alert since a December 13 attack on the Indian parliament by five gunmen whom New Delhi says belonged to Pakistan-based outfits. India yesterday withdrew its ambassador from Islamabad and suspended road links to pressure Pakistan to crack down on militant groups.
