At least 32 Sri Lankan government soldiers have been killed and another 200 seriously wounded in fierce fighting in teh north of teh country.

Sri Lankan government officials say the killings came after separatist Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam offered stiff resistance to the military advance launched in the Jaffna peninsula.
